Disney Channel Original Halloween Movies and Thier Stars’ Anti-Disney Futures
With jobs and social lives that make it hard to plan around the Disney Channel’s Halloween line up, it’s nice to know these classics can be enjoyed anytime in ten minute increments on Youtube. Keep one on in the background while you finish up a paper or a job application, and if you really want to feel old, check out what some of the adorable monster mingling children (and adults) are up to now.
1. The Scream Team (2002)
This was a pretty involved movie about historical misconceptions, souls, and pumpkin carving. And it had Eric Idle, so serious bonus points.
Three years after entertaining little kids with a wholesome tales of accidental human torches, Kat Dennings was hanging out in a planned parenthood with Steve Carell and a kid in search of giant condoms in The 40 Year Old Virgin.
2. Halloween Town (1998)
This movie is the reason I didn’t get any homework done in October ’98. I was too busy trying to move a cookie with my mind.
Judith Hoag (aka the mom) ended up with a recurring role on everyone’s favorite polygamist drama Big Love.
3. Hocus Pocus (1993)
Quick, name another Disney Channel movie that talks about virginity (Wish Upon a Star, but that’s not important right now)! And why does Sarah Jessica Parker keep stroking her boobs? She totally could have used this as her Sex in the City screen test.
Besides sexy witch Parker becoming sexy blogger Carrie Bradshaw, Thora Birch grew up to co-star in the classic jail-bait lust flick American Beauty.
4. Under Wraps (1997)
A semi educational film that had kids throwing around fancy social studies words like sarcophagus. And I feel Harold is exactly the kind of name twelve-years-olds would choose for a thousand years old mummy. It suited him
Harold, or rather Bill Fagerbakke stayed in the kiddie pool, voicing Patrick on SpongeBob SquarePants.
5. Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire (2000)
An important lesson to all the kids out there-don’t set your mom up with a stranger. It could go horribly, horribly wrong and end in Rockabilly music. Or, you know, death by exsanguination.
Laura Vandervoot (aka the sister) who already had a background in freaking out kids on Goosebumps, stayed in the fantasy world by playing Superman’s cousin on Smallville.
